What is Celebrate Diversity?
New York Center for Interpersonal Development & The Mosaic Coalition
Celebrate Diversity! is a FREE family and community event designed to strengthen respect and understanding among different cultures that call Staten Island their home. The event is an organized strategy to overcome ignorance and intolerance by promoting intercultural awareness. Each year the event is sponsored by the Mosaic Coalition, which is a collaboration between New York Center For Interpersonal Development and Wagner College.
When the Towers fell in 2001, New York Center For Interpersonal Development and Wagner College felt compelled to do something to bring the Staten Island Community together.
For one year, Civic, Religious and Political leaders along with interested Islanders met once a month to break barriers while breaking bread. Through a series of study circles we learned more about each other and ourselves. We discovered something very positive in the midst of a dark time. The outcome was the Mosaic Coalition.

Goals
Education through Interaction! Our overall goal is to build relationships and strengthen communities by promoting respect, awareness and understanding of all cultures.
It is also necessary for us to raise enough funds each year to support the culminating event and give back to the Staten Island community. (Please see Contests & How to Help below)
Past Events
For the past 4 years Celebrate Diversity! has highlighted ethnic groups on Staten Island allowing them to showcase their cultures. Last year over 1,000 people participated in the event at Wagner College exploring the culture and cuisine from their neighbors. Included in those participants were civic leaders, dedicated politicians, and some of the Consulates from the highlighted cultures.
